Before you start: Rentals has to be switched on for your company (Settings → Capabilities). Until then this screen is not in the menu.
What it's for
Rental availability checks serialized company and vendor units before you commit a rental. The header says the end date is the handoff boundary: a new rental can start on the previous rental's end date.
Open it from the Availability tab on Rentals, at /rentals/availability.

Rentals and Availability.
Panels and controls
Start date defaults to today. End date defaults to seven days later. Both are required. Select Check availability. The end has to be after the start. An invalid range says Choose a valid end date after the start date.
Columns are Unit, Equipment, Availability, and Reason. Availability is Available or Unavailable.
- No conflict: No overlapping commitment.
- The dates overlap a draft or active rental, or a reserved or out hold: This asset already has a reservation overlapping the requested dates. Cancel any draft rental holding this unit, or choose a different window.
- A unit in maintenance or retired: This unit is unavailable for rental.
Search units filters the table. No rental units / No rental units are visible in your current scope. is the empty state.
What it accepts
The check reads company-owned and vendor-owned equipment in your branch scope. A unit that is still out stays committed past a missed return date until it is actually returned.
How to configure it
- This screen belongs to the rentals module. A company that has not turned the module on does not see it — check Settings → Capabilities, and Settings reference for what your plan includes.
- There is no separate availability setting. The dates you enter are the window.
Who can see it
This screen sits behind the Rentals area.
Owners and office managers can open it. Dispatchers and technicians cannot. The gate is checked on the server, not just hidden in the sidebar, so a direct link does not get around it.
