Pay an invoice

What it's for

Pay an invoice is the page your customer opens from the link on their invoice. It shows what they owe and lets them pay it — no account, no password, no portal login.

It opens from the pay link on an invoice you sent. The route is /pay/<invoice>. It is not reachable from the office app's navigation, because it is not a staff screen.

Tabs

The page has no tabs. It is the amount and a way to pay it.

Panels and controls

  • Amount due shows the balance. Payment amount is pre-filled with that balance and can be lowered for a part payment. If the page shows a Card processing fee, the amount is the full balance and cannot be changed.
  • Pay $X takes the payment. On success the customer lands on the payment confirmation.
  • The page is deliberately short. A customer with a card in their hand should not have to read anything to work out what to do.

Payment recorded here appears against the invoice in the office app, so the Balance due on the invoice record and the Overdue count on the dashboard both move without anyone keying it in.

How to configure it

  • Invoicing settings decide the payment terms shown and whether part payment is offered.
  • Branding settings decide how the page looks to your customer.
  • Online payment has to be connected for your company before the link does anything — see Settings → Integrations.

Who can see it

This page opens from a secure link you send — no login, no account. A current link is the way in, so treat it the way you would treat the invoice itself. The link works for 24 hours. After that the page title is This payment link has expired, and the note says payment links stop working after 24 hours and names the company to ask for a current link. Sign in to the customer portal is on that page for every customer. A link that was never valid says Invalid link, and so does an old link for an invoice that has been voided.

Your own staff do not use this page; they record payments on the invoice record instead.
