Use the native tech app
Reviewed against source:
The native technician app is a separate phone app. Adding the browser field pages to your home screen makes an installed web app; it does not install the native app. Ask your office for the installation method available to your company. Get the tech app explains the download page.
Choose the right surface
- Browser field pages — open Thermal's field pages in your browser.
- Installed web app — a home-screen shortcut to those same browser field pages, with the same web navigation and offline limits.
- Native technician app — the separate mobile app, with the tabs and Profile shortcuts below.
The native app opens on Today and keeps a bar of shortcuts along the bottom of the screen.
The bottom bar
| Tab | What you get |
|---|---|
| Today | Your jobs for the day. This is where the app opens. |
| Schedule | Your next seven days of jobs. |
| Van | The stock on your truck. |
| Profile | Your profile, your time clock (clock in and out), sign out, and more shortcuts. |
If voice assistance is available to your account, a Voice tab appears between Schedule and Van. While the Voice screen is open, the bottom bar is hidden.
More shortcuts
Open Profile → More for these destinations:
| Tap | What you get |
|---|---|
| Route | Today's route, with the option to optimize the stop order. |
| Reader | Take a card payment on the phone. See Collect payment in the field. |
| Purchase | Record a part you bought for a job. See Record a field purchase. |
| Available | Open jobs you can claim, if your company lets technicians claim work. |
| Sync | Changes saved on this phone that are waiting to sync, including failed changes. |
| Earnings | Your commissions. |
Use the bottom bar to switch the main screens; open Profile for the other shortcuts. You do not have to go back to Today first.
Voice assistance also appears here when available to your account. These are Profile shortcuts, rather than extra bottom-bar tabs.
Working a job
Open a job from Today or Schedule to see its details and work controls. The Close out a job walkthrough describes the browser Diagnose → Build → Wrap flow and its browser screenshots. Use the controls shown in the native job screen when working in the native app.
Add a part by scanning its barcode
From a job's Add item sheet, tap Scan part barcode to open the camera scanner. The app asks for camera access the first time; if you've already turned it off, you'll see "Camera access is off. Allow it in phone settings to scan a part." until you turn it back on.
Point the camera at the part's barcode. A match adds it to the job at the Quantity you set in the sheet.
Scanning adds the job line only. It does not take stock off your van at scan time; van usage is recorded when the job is completed. Set the quantity before scanning, and check the added line before finishing the job.
The scanner stays disabled while your van stock is loading, or if it failed to load — add the item manually with the picker instead until it's back. Tap Close scanner to back out without scanning.
Signal and syncing
Some native actions save a pending change on this phone; others need a connection. Check the save result, then use Profile → More → Sync to review pending or failed changes. Reconnect before attempting an action that needs the office to respond.
See Keep working when you lose signal for the native and browser limits and recovery steps.
