Customer tax exemptions

What it's for

Customer tax exemptions keeps the exemption certificates behind a customer's tax-exempt status. Tax is charged normally unless a valid certificate is on file, so an expired or missing certificate never silently removes tax from an invoice.

Reach it from the customer's actions menu. The route is /customers/<customer>/tax-exemptions.

Tabs

The page has no tabs. It has two sections you can jump between: Certificates and Add certificate.

Panels and controls

  • Certificates lists each certificate with its number, jurisdiction, site scope, effective and expiry dates, status and document.
  • A status reads Valid, Expired, Not yet effective, Inactive or Evidence missing. Only a valid certificate removes tax.
  • View document opens the supporting document. Deactivate and Reactivate switch a certificate off or on without deleting it.
  • Add certificate is the form for a new one.

What it accepts

  • A certificate number and a jurisdiction, entered as the exact site region code, such as WA or ON.
  • A site scope: one service site, or all qualifying sites for the customer.
  • An effective date and an expiry date. The certificate is valid through the expiry date in the company's timezone.
  • A supporting document chosen from the customer's uploaded documents. Upload it first from the customer's Documents tab; the form cannot be saved without one.

How to configure it

Nothing in Settings changes how this screen behaves.

Who can see it

This screen sits behind the Customers area.

Owners, office managers and dispatchers can open it. Technicians cannot. The gate is checked on the server, not just hidden in the sidebar, so a direct link does not get around it.

The full role matrix is on Roles & permissions.
