ReferenceCustomers & equipment

New Customer

Open Customers → NEW in Thermal →

What it's for

New Customer adds an account to your shop, together with its first service site. A customer with no site cannot have equipment or jobs, so the form asks for both in one pass rather than making you come back.

Reach it from Add on the Customers list, or directly at /customers/new. The page describes itself as "Add a customer to your organization."

Tabs

The form has no tabs. It is one page: the account first, then its first site.

Panels and controls

  • Branch decides which branch owns the account.
  • Customer Name is what shows everywhere else in the product — "e.g. Smith Household, Acme HVAC".
  • Customer Type marks the account commercial or residential, which is what downstream screens use to decide the right treatment.
  • Pricing Tier picks the price book tier this customer is quoted at.
  • Phone and Email are the contact details — "e.g. (206) 555-0100", "e.g. owner@example.com". The email is also what a customer portal invite would go to, so it is worth filling in even when you usually phone.
  • Notes is free text for anything the account needs remembered.
  • Site Label, Address Line 1, Address Line 2, City, State and ZIP create the first service site — "e.g. Main Office", "Street address", "Suite, unit, floor (optional)".
  • Create Customer saves both; Cancel goes back without saving.

How to configure it

  • Branches decide what the branch picker offers.
  • Price book settings decide which pricing tiers exist and which one is the default.
  • Customer portal settings decide whether a portal invite can be sent to the email you enter here.

Who can see it

This screen sits behind the Customers area.

Owners, office managers and dispatchers can open it. Technicians cannot create accounts. The gate is checked on the server, not just hidden in the sidebar, so a direct link does not get around it.

The full role matrix is on Roles & permissions.
