Stock variance

What it's for
Open /inventory/variance to review differences between recorded stock and
its cost layers. This worklist helps you investigate; it posts no stock
adjustment. See Inventory for the main stock list.
Tabs
This worklist has one list. Open a part name to review its inventory record.
Panels and controls
The list shows the part, variance, units to review, cost delta, and reason. Use search to narrow the list.
- Exhausted with stock: stock remains on hand but no cost layer has units remaining. The units to review equal the total stock on hand.
- Over-consumed: accumulated consumption exceeds the quantity recorded in receipt, opening-balance, and adjustment layers.
Cost-layer balances stop at zero. When stock taken from inventory exceeds the quantity recorded in cost layers, review the Over-consumed variance. Unfilled stock requests do not count as consumption.
Exhausted and over-consumed cost deltas are estimates at the newest layer's unit cost, or the part's last cost when there are no layers. The reason explains the calculation. A part can have more than one variance; do not add overlapping deltas together.
What it accepts
This is a read-only list. It accepts search text and has no adjustment or write-off form. Consumption excludes transfers and unfilled stock shortages.
How to configure it
The worklist checks active parts when your inventory costing method is first in, first out (FIFO) or last in, first out (LIFO). It compares the part's stock across all locations because cost layers are shared across locations and branches.
Who can see it
You need Inventory access, cost visibility, and all-branch inventory scope. If your branch scope or cost visibility is restricted, the screen explains the access needed instead of showing a partial comparison. See Roles & permissions.
