What it's for
Rentals is the on/off switch and shared defaults for the Rentals & Leasing module — Fleet, leases, contractor rentals, and reservations. It sits next to two more specific screens this page links out to: return charge types and rate cards.
Reach it from Settings → Rentals in the sidebar, at /settings/rentals.
Tabs
This screen has no tabs. Two sections: Rentals module defaults, and rental movement billing.
Panels and controls
Enable Rentals & Leasing
A toggle that shows or hides Fleet, leases, contractor rentals, and reservations for your org. Off means those surfaces don't appear at all.
Default yard branch
Pre-fills the return-to location on new retail rentals — pick the branch where units are picked up and refurbished. Leaving it "Not set" means every new rental starts with no return branch pre-filled.
Below the dropdown, two pointers to related screens: whether a signature is required before a rental or lease agreement can be deployed is managed under Settings → Signatures, not here, and rate defaults, shift-meter overage, and consumable charge types are set on the rate rule pricing each asset class, reachable via Rate cards & metering. A Manage return charge types button links to the dedicated screen for that.
Rental movement billing
Default customer charges applied to the single delivery, pickup, or swap work order: Transport charge (added once per truck roll), Install labour (added on delivery and swap), and De-install labour (added on pickup and swap). Leaving any of these at zero leaves that line off the work order entirely — it isn't shown as a $0.00 line item.
Save changes submits both sections together.

How to configure it
- Turning on Enable Rentals & Leasing is what makes Fleet, leases, contractor rentals, and reservations show up in navigation at all — this screen is the gate for the whole module.
- Default yard branch only pre-fills a value on new rentals; it doesn't restrict which branch a rental can actually return to.
- Rental movement billing amounts appear automatically on the delivery, pickup, or swap work order Thermal generates — change them here rather than editing each work order by hand.
- Signature requirements for rental and lease agreements live on Signatures, not here — rental and lease agreements require a signature out of the box on that screen and issuing is blocked until it's signed.
- Rate defaults and consumable charge types live on the rate rule pricing each asset class, and return-charge defaults live on Return charge types.
Who can see it
- Owners and office managers can open Settings → Rentals and change every field on it.
- Dispatchers and technicians cannot reach Settings at all.
