Add a technician

Adding a technician does two things at once: it creates their profile inside Thermal and it invites them to sign in. Do both from the same place — Staff — so the two never fall out of sync.

Steps

  1. Open Staff and start a new staff member.
  2. Enter their name, email, and phone number. The email is what they'll sign in with.
  3. Set their role to Technician. Role controls what they can see and do — a technician's app is scoped to their own assigned work orders.
  4. If the shop has more than one branch, set their home branch. Technicians default to seeing only their home branch's work; an owner can change this per person later if a tech needs to work across branches.
  5. Save. Thermal sends an invite to the email you entered — the technician sets their own password from there.

What the technician sees

Once they sign in, a technician lands in the field app scoped to their own schedule: assigned work orders, the ability to accept and start jobs, and their van's inventory. They don't see pricing, other technicians' schedules, or admin settings — that scoping is what the Technician role is for, not something you configure separately.
