Add a technician
Adding a technician does two things at once: it creates their profile inside Thermal and it invites them to sign in. Do both from the same place — Staff — so the two never fall out of sync.
Steps
- Open Staff and start a new staff member.
- Enter their name, email, and phone number. The email is what they'll sign in with.
- Set their role to Technician. Role controls what they can see and do — a technician's app is scoped to their own assigned work orders.
- If the shop has more than one branch, set their home branch. Technicians default to seeing only their home branch's work; an owner can change this per person later if a tech needs to work across branches.
- Save. Thermal sends an invite to the email you entered — the technician sets their own password from there.
What the technician sees
Once they sign in, a technician lands in the field app scoped to their own schedule: assigned work orders, the ability to accept and start jobs, and their van's inventory. They don't see pricing, other technicians' schedules, or admin settings — that scoping is what the Technician role is for, not something you configure separately.
