Set up automations

Open Automations in Thermal →

Automations is the trust center for everything Thermal can do on its own — a module-by-module dial for how much runs unattended, a queue of what's waiting on your say-so, and a full history of what ran and why. Every automated action carries a reason and can be turned off; nothing runs silently.

The three levels

Each automation module — renewal reminders, PM scheduling, reorder suggestions, and the rest — sits at one of three levels:

  • Off — the module doesn't act at all.
  • Suggest — it proposes an action and waits for you to approve it.
  • Auto — it acts on its own, inside bounds you set (a dollar cap, a scope limit, or similar), and logs what it did.

Some modules are Suggest-only by design and won't offer an Auto dial at all — that's a deliberate limit on that specific module, not a bug.

Needs review

The Needs review tab is your queue of Suggest-mode proposals waiting for a decision — approve, reject, or leave for later. This is separate from Manage approvals, which is specifically work-order line items waiting to be billed.

Rules & bounds

Set each module's level and its bounds here — the caps and limits that keep an Auto-mode module inside guardrails you're comfortable with. A change here takes effect immediately.

Activity and approval history

Activity shows every automated action as it happens; Approval history is the record of every Suggest-mode decision, who made it, and when — useful when you need to show why a particular action did or didn't happen.
