Set up commissions
Commissions is where you define how technicians get paid on top of wages — a percentage of the job or a flat fee per job — and where the resulting payouts get tracked and marked paid. This is an Owner/Office surface; Dispatchers and Technicians don't see it.
Commission plans
A commission plan (a "schedule") is the pay rule you assign to a technician. Choose Add commission plan and set:
- Plan name — e.g. "Senior Tech."
- Basis — Percent of job value or Flat fee per job.
- Rate — for a percent plan, entered in basis points (
1000= 10%); for a flat-fee plan, entered in cents (5000= $50.00). - Multiplier (optional) — scales the calculated commission up or down,
entered in thousandths (
1250= 1.25×). Use it for an efficiency bonus or an upsell-performance tier on top of the base rate. - Cap (optional) — the maximum payout per job in cents, regardless of how the rate and multiplier compute out.
Thermal calculates the commission automatically when a technician's work order is completed — you never enter a payout by hand. The base amount is the completed job's line-item total; the plan's rate, multiplier, and cap run against that number to produce the earned commission, which lands on the technician's scorecard and in the ledger below.
A plan you no longer use can be archived from its edit sheet — existing ledger rows already earned under it are preserved, it just can't be assigned to new techs going forward.
Assign technicians
Each technician on your staff can carry one active commission plan. Assign or change it from the technician list on this page — a tech with no plan assigned earns no commission on completed jobs.
The commission ledger
The ledger lists the last 50 earned commissions, each showing the technician, the job, the amount, and a status:
- Pending — earned, not yet paid out.
- Paid — marked paid, typically ahead of the org's next payout date.
- Void — reversed. Voiding always requires a reason (e.g. "job was re-assigned after completion") so the ledger stays auditable.
Every rate, multiplier, and cap on a ledger row is a snapshot taken at the moment the commission was earned — editing a plan later never rewrites history on commissions already earned under the old numbers.
Recommendation templates
A recommendation template bundles Price Book items into a one-tap add for a technician's upsell script (e.g. a filter-and-belt bundle). A template can optionally carry its own commission plan, which overrides the technician's default plan specifically for jobs where that bundle was applied — so an upsell push can carry its own incentive rate without changing anyone's base plan.
