Add an item when the price book is empty
Line items live on the job's Line items tab, then on the invoice. With an empty price book, add a line in the technician app or on a draft invoice.
Where the line items live
On the office screen, open a job's Line items tab: labor, parts, and other charges with quantity, unit price, and total. The tab adds lines from the price book only, so with an empty price book it has nothing to pick. The invoice is built from those lines. After you generate the invoice, its own page shows the same lines. While the invoice is a Draft, Owners and Office users can adjust a line's price or add a line there. Once it is Sent, the lines lock (see Send and collect an invoice).
Add an item when the price book is empty
You don't need a price book to bill. There are two places that take a line without a catalogue entry:
- In the technician app. On the job's Capture work screen, with no active price book items it says "No active pricebook items yet" and shows an Add ad hoc line item form: choose Part or Labor, enter a Description, a Quantity and a Unit price, then choose Add to job. It works offline and syncs when the signal returns.
- On a draft invoice. Owners and Office users open the invoice, choose Add invoice line, then fill in the Description, the kind, the Quantity, the Unit price and a Reason for adding this line, and choose Add line. The description prints on the invoice.
The office job page has no form for this. To fill the price book for next time, see Set your pricing and business rules.
