Customer profitability

Open Reports → Customer Profitability in Thermal →

What it's for

Customer profitability shows invoiced revenue, known job costs and gross margin by bill-to customer. Customers with the lowest margin appear first.

The date range selects invoice issue dates, including paid and unpaid bills. Revenue is before tax. Draft, prebill, void, deleted, deposit and supplier bills are excluded. Agreement and rental bills belong to the payer recorded on the invoice, which can differ from the customer who owns the service site.

Tabs

This report has one table. Open it from Reports → Customer profitability.

Panels and controls

Set From and To, then select Filter. Clear resets the dates while keeping the selected branch. Branch controls appear when your access allows comparison between branches. A branch-restricted account stays in its branch.

The table shows bill-to customer, jobs, invoiced revenue, labor cost, material cost, subcontractor cost, total cost, gross margin and margin percentage. Select a customer name to open its record. Export → CSV downloads the same selection.

Gross margin is revenue minus total cost. Margin percentage is gross margin divided by revenue; it is blank when revenue is zero. A consolidated invoice counts once, and repeated invoices for a job do not repeat its costs within the selection. If a job is billed to several customers, its costs are split in proportion to their invoiced revenue. Zero-dollar bills split costs equally.

What it accepts

The report reads invoices issued and jobs opened in the selected period. Older jobs linked to those invoices are included too, and each job is counted once. Job cost uses the same known labor, material and subcontractor costs as Job P&L. These are lifetime job costs, even when the job opened before the selected invoice dates.

Unbilled jobs opened in the period contribute costs to their job bill-to customer, agreement payer or site customer, in that order. Rental bills contribute revenue; rental asset expenses are outside these job-cost figures. This report describes the selected invoices, rather than expenses incurred during an accounting period. Adding separate periods can repeat the lifetime costs of a job billed in both periods.

How to configure it

No separate setting is required. The default date range is the trailing 90 days.

Who can see it

The Reports area and View costs permission are both required. The report, its entry in the Reports list and the CSV export are unavailable without cost access. Direct links do not bypass these checks.
